Little is known about the use of School Dekcho Damdin as a camp for Vietnamese refugees. On 8 June 1970: School Dekcho Damdin housed 1.648 persons (269 families) from Kompong Chhnang, according to the statistics provided by the representative of the Ministry of Social Action of South Vietnam, Nguyen Van Hien (note no. 594, 11 June 1970, ICRC archive, BAG-232-042-001-02). South Vietnam Vice-President Cao Ky and his delegation visited the site during their official stay in Cambodia earlier that month (Le Cambodge Économique, nos. 61-62, 11-14 August 1970, p. 5). It means that conditions onsite were probably correct as a high-ranking official could visit the site in the frame of an important diplomatic visit.
